Countertop POP display (PDQ tray)
A small printed corrugated tray that sits by the register and merchandises impulse product, shipped pre-packed and shelf-ready.
What it is
A compact corrugated counter unit (PDQ, short for "pretty darn quick") that holds a single SKU or a small assortment at the checkout. It arrives either pre-packed or knocked-down-flat, so a clerk can drop it on the counter and have product facing the shopper in seconds.
Choose it when
Choose a PDQ tray over a full floor display when you're merchandising small, light impulse SKUs in the checkout zone and want a low-cost, shelf-ready unit that rolls out across many stores. Step up to a permanent acrylic or metal counter display when the program needs to live on the counter for years.
Strengths
- Cheap per unit at quantity, which suits hundreds of stores
- Ships flat or pre-packed and sets up by hand with no tools
- Litho-laminated print gives near-photographic branding on the panel and lip
- Recyclable corrugated, so it gets pulped at end of promo instead of stored
Watch-outs
- – Corrugated is a short-term medium; it scuffs and goes shopworn within a promo cycle
- – Holds light product only, not heavy or bulky SKUs
- – Custom tooling and litho plates add lead time and setup cost, so it isn't a true rush item
- – Indoor, dry-counter use only
Not the right call for: Permanent or fixture-grade displays (use a metal or acrylic counter unit) · Heavy product or high-capacity floor merchandising (use a floor display or shipper) · Any outdoor or wet location · Same-week rush jobs when custom tooling is involved
