Overview

The everyday print workhorse and the translucent backlit standard.

ORAFOL®'s ORACAL® product family does two jobs on Signavero programs. One is everyday digital print. That's ORAJET® 3651, the film our print partners run more linear feet of than anything else. The other is translucent backlit work: ORACAL® 8500 and 8800 on channel letter faces and lightbox cabinets, where color has to hold steady once the lights come on.

Translucent durability depends on climate zone. ORAFOL® rates ORACAL® 8500 anywhere from 3 to 7 years by zone, so check the current datasheet for your market before you commit.

When to pick what

3651 for everyday print, 3951 for cast wraps, 8800 for permanent backlit.

  • ORAJET 3651 is the calendered workhorse. Banners, retractables, indoor signage, POP, short-to-medium-term outdoor graphics. It prints predictably, laminates without drama, and our partners keep it deep in stock.
  • ORAJET 3951is the Oracal equivalent of 3M IJ180Cv3 and Avery MPI 1105. Reach for it on vehicle wraps and complex-substrate installs that need cast conformability. It's rated for marine use, so it holds up on boats and watersports applications too.
  • ORACAL 8800 is the premium translucent cast for permanent backlit. Channel letter faces, lightbox cabinets, any backlit sign that has to read evenly in daylight and after dark for years. It holds color and conforms better than the calendered 8500.
  • ORACAL 8500 is the translucent calendered option. It's the right call on shorter-life backlit retail signage when cost-per-square-foot has to come down and a zone-rated 3-7 year service life is good enough.
Specification notes

Translucent color consistency.

The trap on backlit work is putting ORACAL 8500 (calendered) on a permanent channel-letter face. It looks great on day one. By day eight hundred it doesn't, because color shift and edge curl show up long before the lighting hardware fails. For permanent backlit, spec ORACAL 8800 cast every time. Save 8500 for the jobs that are genuinely short-life and budget-driven.

Color range

Cut-vinyl color comes off the chart, not out of a printer.

Printed graphics can hit any brand color. Opaque cut vinyl is picked from the manufacturer's color chart — and the ORACAL® chart runs deep enough that most brand standards land on an off-the-shelf match before anyone pays for a custom run. The range below is illustrative of the families on a typical chart; we match against the current ORACAL® chart at spec time and send physical samples on request.
