Illuminated cabinet sign
An internally-lit aluminum cabinet with a glowing translucent face. The workhorse storefront and pylon sign.
What it is
A welded or extruded aluminum box, lit from inside with LEDs, that glows through a translucent face printed or vinyl-decorated with the brand. The whole face is one panel, so it carries logos, multiple lines, and color far more cheaply than fabricating individual letters. Mounts flat to a building or sits on a pole or pylon, single- or double-sided.
Choose it when
You want a permanent illuminated exterior sign that carries a full logo or several lines for less than fabricating individual letters, especially on a pole or pylon, or above roughly 40 sq ft where cabinet cost-per-foot pulls ahead. Choose channel letters instead when the clean open look of separate lit letters is the point.
Strengths
- One large face carries logos, several lines, and full color cheaply
- Cost-per-square-foot beats channel letters as the sign gets bigger
- Faces swap or reface without rebuilding the cabinet
- Single- or double-sided, wall or pole, with the same hardware
- Even internal glow across the whole panel
Watch-outs
- – Professional install with electrical work and permits
- – Reads as a lit box, not the premium open look of individual letters
- – A whole face lights up, including the background, so it can look heavier than channel letters
- – Lead time for fabrication, paint, and permitting
Not the right call for: A premium, minimalist storefront where individual channel letters or a halo glow are the look · Temporary, budget, or DIY signage · Interior snap-frame or menu-board lightboxes (use the interior illuminated lightbox)
Where this fits in our work
We don't stop at the print. Illuminated cabinet sign runs through the same network that specs and fabricates it, then installs it on site. The work behind it:
