Post-and-panel sign
A flat message panel mounted on one or two ground-set posts. The workhorse economical exterior identification and wayfinding sign.
What it is
A printed or surfaced panel held off the ground by one or two posts set into the earth. The panel is usually aluminum composite, aluminum, or MDO; the posts are aluminum, wood, or PVC-clad. It's the affordable middle ground between a stake yard sign and a built monument sign.
Choose it when
You want a real roadside identification or wayfinding sign that reads from a distance, but a built monument sign is overkill or over budget. Choose it over a stake yard sign when it has to look permanent and survive years, not a sale cycle.
Strengths
- Cheaper and faster than a built monument sign for the same roadside presence
- Lifts the message to eye level and holds it square, unlike a low stake sign
- Panel and post finishes are interchangeable, so it scales from a leasing sign to a permanent ID
- Modular extruded systems let you swap panels without pulling the posts
Watch-outs
- – Needs in-ground footings and proper post-setting, so it's a professional install, not a tool-free DIY job
- – Posts and panel ship oversized and assemble on site, which rules out a same-day rush
- – Less substantial and secure than a masonry monument sign
- – Larger panels catch wind, so post size and footing depth have to be engineered for the span
Not the right call for: Indoor lobby or directory use · Anything you need to plant tool-free in minutes (use a stake yard sign) · The premium, vandal-resistant entrance statement a masonry monument delivers · Illuminated signage, unless you add external spot or flood lighting
