Standee / Life-Size Cardboard Cutout
Contour-cut freestanding figure with a fold-out easel back, used to put a person, product, or character on the floor of a store, lobby, or event.
What it is
A standee is a full-color graphic printed on rigid board, cut precisely around the subject's silhouette, and propped upright by a hinged easel on the back. It turns a photo of a person, mascot, or product into a life-size, free-standing prop that needs no wall, frame, or hardware.
Choose it when
Choose a standee over a foam-board poster on an easel when you want a life-size, contour-cut figure that reads as a person or character standing in the room, rather than a rectangular printed panel. Pick the foamcore version for indoor promos and the 4mm corrugated-plastic version when it has to survive a short outdoor or high-traffic run.
Strengths
- Free-standing on its own easel, so it needs no wall, ceiling point, or mounting hardware
- Cheap and fast to produce, with 24-hour turnaround widely available
- Contour cut to the subject's outline reads as a lifelike silhouette, not a rectangle
- Folds flat for shipping and storage, then sets up in seconds
- DIY setup, no installer or tools required
Watch-outs
- – Easel-backed board is light and tips over in wind or busy foot traffic
- – Standard foamcore and cardboard are indoor-only and dent, scuff, or crush easily
- – A single static pose, not reusable for a different campaign
- – Tall figures can need a custom or oversized easel to stay upright
Not the right call for: Long-term or permanent display (the board fatigues and fades over months) · Unprotected outdoor or windy locations on the standard easel; use a staked corrugated-plastic or aluminum version instead · Anything that must mount to a wall, hang, or carry weight
