Expanded PVC foam board

A smooth, rigid plastic board that prints beautifully and shrugs off moisture. The versatile mid-range workhorse.

The clean, printable mid-range board. UV-grade it for the long outdoors.

Good to know

  • Indoors it lasts for years. Outdoors, standard board yellows and turns brittle in three to five years, so spec UV-grade or laminate it if it has to last.

What it is

A closed-cell expanded-PVC sheet with a smooth, hard surface ideal for high-resolution printing and applied vinyl. More weather- and moisture-resistant than foam board, lighter than acrylic.

Choose it when

You want a clean, printable rigid sign that resists moisture and costs less than metal. Choose it over foam board whenever any durability or moisture is involved.

Strengths

  • Smooth surface, so print quality is excellent
  • Moisture-resistant; won't rot or delaminate like foam board
  • Lighter and cheaper than acrylic or ACM

Watch-outs

  • Standard (non-UV-stabilized) board yellows and gets brittle outdoors in ~3–5 yr
  • Less rigid than ACM at large sizes

Not the right call for: Long-term unprotected full-sun outdoor use (spec UV-grade or laminate)

Questions people ask

Can PVC foam board go outside?

Short-to-mid term, yes. Long-term in full sun, standard board yellows and gets brittle in a few years, so spec UV-grade or laminate it.

PVC foam or Coroplast?

PVC for a smooth, clean printed surface and better looks; Coroplast for the cheapest high-volume outdoor signs where finish doesn't matter.

Where this fits in our work

We don't stop at the print. Expanded PVC foam board runs through the same network that specs and fabricates it, then installs it on site. The work behind it:
